Last Day of Camp!

Everyone had a great time this week making snow globes and playing on Water Day.  Tomorrow marks the last day of camp for summer 2014!  As a reminder, at camp there will be a ton of fun things - a water slide, dunk tank, slip 'n' slide, games, and lots of snacks! Remember to send your child to camp with a swim suit.

There are also a ton of forgotten items left in the cabin from the course of the summer.  Our goal is to have the cabin completely cleaned out tomorrow after camp, so please check to make sure your child did not accidentally leave something at camp.

Finally, thank you for a wonderful summer at Camp Ya-Gotta-Wanna.  It's been a pleasure working with everyone and getting to know everyone involved in the program.  I hope you all enjoyed your summer as much as I did!

Stuart Stotts Sing-along!

On Friday, Stuart Stotts, a children's singer and storyteller, performed for us at camp.  He told some really great stories and sang a ton of fun songs!  Everyone was singing and dancing along during his songs - even the counselors! Stuart was lots of fun to have at camp!

It was also Crazy Hair Day on Friday and we had some wonderful participation.  You can see some of the crazy ideas people came up with in the pictures below.

Pediatrician at Camp

Yesterday, a UW pediatrician, Dr. Zimmerman, came to talk to us about her job.  She demonstrated what happens during a check up on Winnie the Pooh and talked about other healthy habits.  The kids were very involved during her talk!  Afterwards, they even got to take home a UW-Health Bucky Badger bag!

Fire Safety Day

Yesterday the firefighters came to visit camp to talk about fire safety.  After showing us all of their cool gear and giving everyone the chance to explore the fire truck, we got to run through the fire hose - what a nice way to cool off!

Superhero/Character Day!

Today was another successful day at Camp Ya-Gotta-Wanna!  We had quite a few people dress up - Spiderman, Superman, The Hulk, The Flash, and Super Girl, to name a few.  We even had some members of royalty visit us - Princess Rapunzel and Queen Elsa!  A big thank you goes out to everyone who participated.  We will also be having another themed day in a couple weeks, so make sure you're ready for that one, too.  I hope everyone enjoyed their fifth week of camp - I know all the staff did!  See you on Monday!

Animal Safety Presentation

Yesterday was a very exciting day at camp! We had an animal safety presentation by two Dane County Humane Society volunteers. After practicing their animal skills on a stuffed dog, the kids got to meet Sam, the dog who visited camp yesterday.

We also had a delicious snack of chocolate pudding.  More may have ended up on faces than it did in mouths!

On Friday, Coleman will be subbing for Jack in the Lion group.

Camp This Week

Hello everyone! As some of you may know, Camp Ya-Gotta-Wanna will have a float in the 4th parade this Friday.  All campers are welcome to join us, either riding in the trailer or biking alongside the float.  Tomorrow at camp, we will be finishing decorating the trailer as well as the truck pulling the trailer.  Campers are also encouraged to bring bikes to camp tomorrow to decorate with streamers in preparation for the parade.
With regards to the parade itself, campers will meet a small group of counselors at the beach house Friday morning by 10:00.  The parade does not officially begin until 10:30.  If you are considering participating in the parade, please email me at sjoakley@wisc.edu.  Contacting me does not mean you are required to show up, or that you may not walk with us in the parade if you did not email me; it simply allows us to have an approximate headcount for the number of kids to expect Friday morning.

Friday, June 27th

On Friday campers enjoyed learning about a foreign country for our themed Italy Day!  We did crafts, played games, and completed activities that all had something to do with the country of Italy.  Some of the children even learned how to say a few numbers in Italian!
We had a great time coloring Italian flag!

A glimpse of the beautiful "stained glass" we made!

Tomorrow, Monday, we will begin decorating our float for the 4th of July parade!  Counselor Coleman will also be substituting for Grace C. Hope to see everyone tomorrow for the decorating fun!
